When Corinthia Cromwell steps onto the stage with her saxophone in hand, many members of the audience are surprised and when she begins to play the audience is astounded by the sound, passion and power that come from her saxophone.

Known as the First Lady of Sax, This Howard University and New York University graduate is a voting member of The Recording Academy and a protégé of The Grammy Award-winning Jazz great Wynton Marsalis. A jazz aficionado and multiple award winner herself, Cromwell is preparing her new CD releases “Straight to Smooth” and “Because of the Blood” slated for release in 2016. The first two singles from her releases “Trinity 3:1” featuring jazz great Cyrus Chestnut & “Great Day” featuring guest vocalist Crystal Marshall-Brown, has been released and is making strides both in the US and Internationally in the UK, Switzerland, London and several other countries.

Corinthia delivers a high energy performance that is dynamic and has been herald for her ability to ignite the audience with not only her saxophone but her voice as well. Fans and notable jazz and gospel authorities have commented that her performance is “breathtaking” and “inspiring”.

Her sophomore release in 2011 “Peace of Mind, Outside the Line” exquisitely combines two genres of music that bridges the gap between Jazz and Gospel and was met with outstanding reviews. Bob Marovich of had this to say about one of the tracks on the artist’s 2011 release, “Another phenomenal performance is the traditional “Tis’ So Sweet” an instrumental duet between Cromwell on sax and virtuoso pianist Cyrus Chestnut. In their hands, the song lives up to its title in more ways than one.”

A vocalist, saxophonist, songwriter, composer , bandleader and producer, Cromwell has performed with and in concert with some of the industries greatest artists such as Kirk Whalum, Regina Carter, Marion Meadows, the Late Wayman Tisdale, Cyrus Chestnut, The Harper Brothers and many more too numerous to name. Corinthia has also performed with several well known gospel artists such as The Clark Sisters, Richard Smallwood and several other gospel artists. Cromwell has toured throughout the US, performed on countless stages, venues and arenas.

During her “Beauty & The Beat” tour, Cromwell was identified as one among Great Women of Jazz in Mark Baszak & Edward Cohen’s published work entitled “Such Sweet Thunder: Views on Black American Music.

Gifted in all the areas of the arts, Cromwell has appeared on several local and national TV shows and in films such as Spike Lee’s “Malcolm X”, Reginald Hudlin’s film “Boomerang” and Chris Rock’s film “Head of State”. She has also appeared in several commercials, industry magazines and local and national print and on-line media.

Cromwell was honored by Senator Rice of the State of New Jersey and given the Senate Resolution in 2008 for her significant contributions in the field of entertainment. In 2011 Corinthia was honored as the Up and Coming Jazz Artist of the year by the Baltimore Jazz Awards and was featured in Jazz Corner and AOL Music in 2012 for her release “Peace of Mind, Outside the Lines”. Corinthia has received several awards and accolades to include reaching #1 in All About Jazz for 4 consecutive weeks in May 2012. In early 2013, she was recognized by the National Association of Negro and Business Professional Women with the Living Women’s History Makers’ Community Award in the area of Music.

Cromwell has performed on many recordings as a side woman; however as a band leader she commands the stage and creates a masterpiece of music as well as a vision of fire with her band as they weave creatively in and out of songs that take the listener and viewer on a musical journey unlike none other.

With her recent dual single releases, “Trinity 3:1” and “Great Day” Corinthia is preparing to take her music to the next level with her double CD releases of “Straight to Smooth” and “Because of the Blood”.
